Tandem Skydiving in Durham
Tandem skydiving in Durham is a mix of adrenaline and scenic views, the jump is 12,500 feet and provides spectacular views of the North East countryside where you will see views of Newcastle, Middlesbrough, Gateshead and Sunderland all around you as you plummet back to earth.

Upon arrival at Shotton Colliery Airfield in Durham you will be shown a safety and techniques video before some practical training and demonstration by the instructors, you will learn where to tuck your legs and place your head, then you will change into you jump suit and safety equipment.

The plane is a Turbine Cessna Grand Caravan, an 18 man skydiving plane. When you board you will be harnessed to your instructor and climb to 12,500 feet with your fellow skydivers. When the hatch is opened you’ll shuffle your way to the door and sit on the edge before the instructor gives the signal and you both roll out of the aircraft. You will experience freefall of around 40 seconds before the instructor deploys the parachute where you’ll begin a gentle descent towards the landing zone.

Maximum Age: Over 40’s should provide a Doctor’s Declaration of Fitness
Maximum Weight: 15 stone

All skydivers at the Durham centre are required to complete a witnessed declaration of health, for under 18’s the witness must be a parent or guardian.

If you are disabled this does not mean you cannot skydive!

For Tandem Skydiving you should allow the full day.

What to Wear
Wear comfortable clothes for your tandem skydive, as you’ll be wearing safety equipment and a jump suit over your clothes including a cap, goggles and gloves.

Shotton Airfield has a number of facilities for spectators, including a canteen, bar, toilets and even bunkers for staying at the airfield overnight. Enquire about the cheap rates.

All Skydiving is subject to weather conditions, if you cannot jump on the day your jump will be rescheduled.

Tandem Skydives at Shotton Airfield are available 7 days per week throughout the year. During the summer months the Skydive Academy is open from 08.30 – 20.30 on Saturdays, Sundays & Bank Holidays. On Wednesdays, the drop zone runs from 13.00.

There are also a few midweek dates during May, June & July where the centre will be closed for staff training and aircraft maintenance.
